These three are the main Kalash cultural festivals celebrated annually in the valleys of Bumburet, Rumbur and Birir near Chitral, Pakistan.

🗓 05-DAY FESTIVAL TOUR – GENERAL STRUCTURE

This itinerary is adaptable depending on which Kalash festival you attend (Spring / Summer / Winter). The start and end activities are similar; only festival celebrations differ in Days 3–4.

🌄 DAY 01 — Departure & Arrival in Chitral

🚍 From Lahore: Night departure (~10:00 PM)
🚐 From Islamabad: Early morning departure (~6:00 AM)

📍 Travel to Chitral:
• Drive via Dir / Lowari tunnel to Chitral
• Lunch en route
• Arrival in Chitral by afternoon / early evening

🏙 Explore Chitral Town:
• Visit Chitral bazaar
• Optional visit to Ayun Fort & Kalasha Museum
• Hotel check-in & dinner

Overnight stay in Chitral.

🗓 DAY 02 — Chitral to Kalash Valleys

🚗 Morning:
• Breakfast & depart Chitral
• Drive scenic route to Kalash Valleys (approx 2–3 hrs)

📍 Kalash Valleys:
• Visit Rumbur Valley — meet Kalash villagers
• Continue to Bumburet Valley (main festival hub)
• Lunch at local guesthouse / homestay

🏞 Afternoon:
• Explore Birir Valley (if time)
• Learn about Kalash culture & traditions

Dinner & overnight stay in Kalash Valley (homestay or guesthouse).

🎉 DAY 03 — FESTIVAL DAY (Varies by Season)

🌷 (A) Chilam Joshi – Spring Festival

📅 13 – 16 May
• Attend morning prayers & rituals
• Traditional dances & music in Bumburet valley
• Cultural gatherings & community feasts
• Women in colorful dresses, men with drums & songs
• Interaction with locals & photography opportunities

Chilam Joshi celebrates spring, livestock blessings & matchmaking rituals.

☀️ (B) Uchal – Summer Festival

📅 20 – 22 August
• Harvest celebrations in Kalash villages
• Procession to high plateau for blessings
• Traditional music, bonfire & singing
• Local foods, handmade crafts & cultural events

Uchal marks the harvest season and gratitude for crops.

❄️ (C) Choimus – Winter Festival

📅 15 – 22 December
• Ritual fires & purification ceremonies
• Dances around bonfires at night
• Tribal elders lead spiritual chants
• Occurs in cold snowy landscapes
• Sacred rituals for prosperity & new cycle

Choimus spans ~1 week and is deeply cultural & spiritual.

Overnight stay in Kalash Valley.

🗓 DAY 04 — More Festival & Valley Exploration

✔ Morning:
• Visit festival sites again for deeper cultural insight
• Participate in local dances, make offerings, taste Kalash cuisine

✔ Afternoon:
• Visit wooden cemeteries, Kalasha Dur Museum, villagers’ homes
• Shopping for traditional crafts & souvenirs

✔ Optional:
• Light hikes in the hills above Bumburet
• Attend night-long festival dances & celebrations

Dinner & second night stay in Kalash Valley.

🗓 DAY 05 — Return to Chitral → Islamabad / Lahore

🚗 Morning:
• Breakfast, depart Kalash Valleys
• Drive back to Chitral

🛬 Return Journey:
• Reach Chitral by early afternoon
• Continue drive back to Islamabad
• Overnight arrival in Islamabad (~evening)
• Direct continue to Lahore (~late night) if starting point was Lahore

Tour ends.
